Mr. Border has been in the oil and gas industry in both operations and advisory since 2007. He is the former CEO and President of Brahman Resource Partners, LLC which he founded in 2016. Brahman Resource Partners acquired and developed mature oil and gas assets that can show new growth utilizing unconventional technology and development where they have historically been developed conventionally. He is the founder of Brahma Energy Partners, LLC where he focused on the restructuring and business development needs of private oil field service, and oil and gas companies. While at Brahma Energy Partners, he joined Donovan Capital where he focused on the capital needs of private oil and gas independents and private oil field service companies. Before joining Donovan Capital, he was a Vice President of Debt and Equity Sales at Tudor Pickering Holt, where he built out the energy debt research sales platform while also covering some of the largest public equity energy funds in North America. He is a graduate of the University of Texas at Austin with a BBA in Engineering Route To Business.
Mr. Strain has over 30 years of leadership and investment experience in the oil and gas industry. Mr. Strain is CFO for Brahman overseeing all finance and accounting activities. He was previously President and partner of Isikel Manufacturing, LLC, a manufacturer of medical supplies based in Houston, Texas. Prior to the formation of Isikel, he provided fractional CFO services to Ambient Reservoir Monitoring Inc. and Seismic Equipment Specialists (SES). He successfully managed SES through a sales process in January 2023. Mr. Strain was also a member of the Brahman Oil & Gas, LLC Advisory Board since Brahman’s formation in 2016 helping with finance, accounting, and modelling of acquisitions. Previous he was the CFO of Crew Support Services based in Midland, TX and Geophysical Technology, Inc. (GTI) based in Houston, Texas. Before joining GTI, Mike spent the last six years as an Operating Partner with Wayzata Investment Partners where he managed a portfolio of investments in both E&P companies and oilfield services. His responsibilities included analysis of public securities, generating and evaluating investment opportunities, negotiating and closing investment transactions, and management of portfolio investments. His portfolio company management duties often included roles at the board level and as interim executive overseeing financial activities of the portfolio companies . The investment portfolio included debt and equity investments in both public and private companies. Prior to Wayzata, he was a Director for the Energy portfolio of Cargill Value Investment Fund. At Cargill, he was responsible for investments in special situation opportunities, primarily focused in the energy sector. While at Cargill he focused on generating and evaluating investment opportunities, management of portfolio investments, and leading negotiations on investment transactions. Prior to joining Cargill, he was a securities analyst with Strain Consultants, Inc., a firm that developed equity research and provided investment banking services to small cap oil and gas companies. After graduating from college, Mike went to work in the oil field services industry. He worked internationally for Western Geophysical in the seismic acquisition industry. Mike’s oil service experience also includes work as a Field Engineer for Schlumberger in the Gulf Coast region of the US. He worked for the Anadrill division of Schlumberger providing MWD, mud logging and directional drilling services to oil and gas companies. Mike received his B.S. from the Colorado School of Mines in Geologic Engineering emphasizing petroleum geology with a minor in Geophysics and an M.S. in Finance from the University of Houston – Clear Lake.
Mr. Germin is Principal of South Coast Capital Advisors and works with Brahman supporting the Chief Financial Officer with finance and accounting activities, as well as reviewing acquisitions evaluated by the Brahman team. Mr. Germin has been working with Brahman since its inception in 2016. He has held various financial positions throughout his 13-year career. He began his career in the investment banking and private equity groups of Tudor , Pickering, Holt & Co before joining Warwick energy group in 2012 where he was Chief Commercial officer and Vice President of Business Development. In 2015, he was a co-founder and Chief Financial Officer of the non-operated company and consulting group, Blue Wave Oil & Gas. In 2017, Mr. Germin co-founded and was Managing Partner of a cloud-based, oil and gas financial analytics company, Advisor Energy. Mr. Germin earned his Bachelor of Business Administration Finance Business Honors from The University of Texas at Austin.
Mr. Magruder has over 40 years operational experience in the industry, he oversees all oil and gas operations for Brahman. Prior to joining Brahman, he was a member of Indigena Capital, an investment group focused exclusively in partnering with Tribal Nations in the United States and First Nations in Canada in oil and gas, renewable power, agriculture, minerals and mining, real estate, utilities, and water. Mr. Magruder led three oil and gas companies prior to joining Indigena Capital, two of which were in excess of $1 billion in assets or start-up capital. As CEO of Chief Oil and Gas, he led the initiative to double the company’s Marcellus shale production and evaluate ~800,000 acres throughout Kansas. While president of Quantum Resources, Mr. Magruder purchased approximately $650 million long-life legacy assets throughout North America with a buy-and-exploit strategy. The assets were rolled up into an MLP which ultimately merged with Breitburn Energy. Mr. Magruder was also responsible for the initial capital investment into Ute Energy through the Quantum Resources platform where he set the company’s trajectory from an initial valuation of $80MM to $1.1B after follow-on capital investment. Mr. Magruder established a Rocky Mountain division for Berry Petroleum which served as the catalyst that diversified Berry’s portfolio. He was responsible for leading the acquisition and leasing charge that positioned the company within three years in one million acres across multiple Rocky Mountain Basins. The initial acquisition for the Rocky Mountain division was in the Uinta Basin that served as a cornerstone of growth for the company. Realized reserves were more than 3X of the original acquisition estimate. The new Rocky Mountain division became a major driver behind Berry’s growth and the Company ultimately relocated their corporate headquarters to Denver. Mr. Magruder served as a Managing Director within Macquarie Tristone’s A&D Advisory group with responsibilities that included sourcing and executing transactions. The team executed an average of 12 deals per year ranging in value from $50 million to over $700 million. Magruder’s team prepared and made routine pitches to potential clients. Pitches included MD&A market overviews, regional comps, marketing process, and market value estimates based on commodity mix and reserve breakdown. Magruder’s team performed technical and commercial due diligence on newly signed mandates to insure an accurate representation of assets. Detailed marketing material, offering memorandums and elaborate data room exhibits were prepared incorporating engineering, geologic and commercial analysis. The execution team consisted of approximately 20 professionals that included transaction VPs, engineers, geologists, technicians and financial analysts. Magruder obtained FINRA certification by passing Investment Banking Exams 79 and 63. From 1980 to 2003, Mr. Magruder served in various engineering and operating roles with Calpine, Barrett Resources, Torch Energy Advisors and CNG Producing Company. He is credited with leading large-scale tight sands plays requiring multistage fracing and developing coal bed methane programs throughout five different Basins. These plays are considered predecessors to the popular “resource plays” targeted today. Mr. Magruder advanced the original 63 coalbed methane wells drilled in the massive Powder River CBM play. He was ultimately responsible for developing over 3,000 Powder River CBM wells and de-risking over one million acres. Mr. Magruder earned his Petroleum Engineering degree from Louisiana State University in 1980. Mr. Magruder served three terms as President of IPAMS (Independent Petroleum Association of Mountain States) which is a 13-state regional trade association located in Denver. Earlier in his career, he served as President of the SPE (Society of Petroleum Engineers) Delta Section while working in New Orleans.
Mr. Van Fleet consults with Brahman in reviewing development of Brahman's current asset base as well as acquisitions development opportunities within the Permian Basin. He was instrumental in the development of Brahman's Vista Grande Woodford position in Pecos and Terrell County Texas. He is the former New Ventures Advisory Geologist and Manager of Permian Basin at Kerogen Exploration, with over 35 years in the industry and over 15 years in unconventional shale formations. Mr. Van Fleet has done multiple reviews, interpretation, and project recommendations in the Permian Basin including “Skyhawk” Western Central Basin, and “Citation” (which became Alpine High) Southern Delaware, and “Vista Grande” in Delaware/Val Verde Basin for Woodford and Barnett development at Kerogen. Mr. Van Fleet is the former Sr. Geological Advisor – New Ventures for Forest Oil covering Wolfberry and Yegua Formations in the Permian and Gulf Coast Basins. Mr. Van Fleet was previously with Newfield Exploration as their Geophysical and Geological Team Lead New Ventures for the Appalachian exploration team covering the Marcellus and Utica Shale. Mr. Van Fleet previously worked with other former Kerogen Resource team members at Mariner Energy as Geological Advisor to Mariner’s Williston team working the Bakken, and Three Forks Formations. While at Kerogen Resources he held the title of Sr. Gas Shale Geologist and New Venture Team Lead overseeing review of the Bakken, Three Forks, Barnett, and Fayetteville Formations. Mr. Van Fleet has held other Sr. Exploration and Development Geologist positions within BP, Anadarko, Mesa Limited, Tenneco, and Amoco working exploration projects in the Anadarko, Arkoma and Sedgwick basins in the mid-continent, North Slope and Cook Inlet basins in Alaska, and international projects in Mexico and the North Sea. Mr. Van Fleet is a professional member of the American Association of Petroleum Geologist (AAPG), Houston Geological Society (HGS), Rocky Mountain Association of Geology (RMAG), and West Texas Geological Society (WTGS), and is a graduate of Muskingum College with a B.A. in Geology, and the University of Arizona where he received his M.S. in Geology (Geomorphology thesis).
Mr. Gary Simpson consults with Brahman in technical evaluation of its development programs and acquisitions within the Permian Basin. Mr. Simpson has over 40 years industry experience, with over 18 years focused on unconventional resource plays throughout North America with Shell, ConocoPhillips, Forest Oil, and Hess Corporation. Mr. Simpson was a member of the unconventional resources team at Shell Oil, consulting on petrophysical evaluation, and reservoir evaluation support relating to heavy oil projects in Canada. While at ConnocPhillips, he supported many multi-disciplinary development asset teams, developing complex shaly sands, tight gas, and unconventional resource plays which included discovery wells for the Eagle Ford shale in South Texas. At Forest Oil, he was a Senior Petrophysics Advisor working on development projects for the Southern Business Unit, as well as Permian exploration projects developing the Wolfcamp, Wolfbone, Bone Springs, and Avalon reservoirs. He joined Hess Corporation as a Sr. Petrophysical Advisor where was a member of the global unconventional reservoir technology team, advising on new and innovative technologies related to petrophysics evaluation of unconventional resources. Mr. Simpson earned a BS Engineering Technology - Mechanical degree from Texas A&M University.
